A minutes silence will be held at 11.00 am on 28 April to commemorate those who have lost their lives

On 28th April every year, organisations around the world commemorate International Workers’ Memorial Day with various events and initiatives to ensure the safety and support of the workforce.

The focus of this year will be on all the Key Workers lost to Covid-19 across the world while carrying out their duties.

If you’ve been affected by the loss of a colleague or someone close to you, our Employee Assistance Service (Time for Talking) are available for you to talk to and will support you to deal with the emotions you are going through.

Our network of Mental Health First Aiders are also on hand and our City Chaplain Ron Flett can also be contacted 07508 654423 or ron.flett@wpcscotland.co.uk to gain support.

We also have a programme of wellbeing events running on the lead up to Mental Health Awareness Week in May and on Workers Memorial Day, 28th April, we have an opportunity for you to hear all about and try some Mindfulness to help you find a way to cope with any stressors in your life.

Details of the course, and the link to join, can be found below and details of the full programme can be found here.

“Aberdeen City Council, will commemorate the day by laying a wreath in our Duthie Park, fly the Town House flag at half mast and light up Marischal College and Square in the colour purple.”

The Persley Walled Garden is the former garden of Woodside House. It was acquired and restored by Aberdeen City Council in 1997 as part of the Scottish Trade Union Congress in commemoration of Workers Memorial Day. A granite obelisk was erected in 1998 as a permanent memorial to those who have lost their lives in the workplace.
